Today I attended a service (in a registered church) where 46 people received the sacrament of baptism! 46 men and women, young and old are my brothers and sisters. You don’t get baptized on a whim here, either. You have to take classes and be a part of the church for a significant period of time (often a year) before you can be baptized. I was amazed and my heart rejoices at this joyful occasion.
“I believe that the Son of God through his Spirit and Word…gathers, protects, and preserves for himself a community chosen for eternal life and united in true faith” (Heidelberg Catechism, Q&A 54).
