But Nothing: A Prayer

posted in: Faith | 0

On Sunday, it seemed like God had a message for me.  In the morning the sermon was from John 3:16 on the the importance of faith.  As is the custom here, the sermon was about an hour long.  That’s really too long for me to be able to follow in Chinese right now, so there was much more of the sermon I didn’t understand than I did.  But the part that I did understand was about the uncertainties of life.  After a long list of things in life that are uncertain, the preacher reminded us that God doesn’t change.  In the midst of the uncertainties of life, God is certain.  Then in the evening, I heard a sermon in English on Romans 8 about the certainty of God.  As a response to these two sermons, I wrote this prayer.

Day after day we are reminded:

This world is uncertain.

But nothing.

Stock market gains and savings account depletions:

This world is uncertain.

But nothing can separate.

Relationships, the lack thereof, marriages, divorces:

This world is uncertain.

But nothing can separate us from.

Struggling family systems and changing friendship groups:

This world is uncertain.

But nothing can separate us from the love.

Political stability, instability, wars, rumors of wars:

This world is uncertain.

But nothing can separate us from the love of God.

Crossing between this culture and that:

This world is uncertain.

But nothing can separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus.

Nothing.

Nothing can separate us from the love of God.

Day after day we are reminded.
